Wednesday at the EcoGarden
Hello Gardeners!
Again we're reminding you of the next gathering at the EcoGarden, where you can join us any time between 4 and 8 pm on Wednesday, August 5th. Please make helping out at the garden a top priority for you during August, as there are many tasks to accomplish in this last month of summer.
The fence is up and the greenhouse almost completed, so now we can work on creating our new perennial borders along the fence by your plots. We have blueberry bushes waiting to be transplanted from their pots, so it's urgent that we get their bed dug as quickly as possible. We have many flats of perennial flowers and grasses which will be going in new beds as well.
We're not asking for hours of hard labour from you, but if everyone can come over and spend a little time with the shovels we'lll get the task done. Although it's best for people to work together on Wednesday, if you absolutely can't make it between 4 and 8, please come anytime you have a half-hour free and do a little digging. We'll make sure the work area is clearly marked so you'll know where to dig. There will be easier tasks as well, including cleaning up in the aftermath of the hailstorm.
The EcoGarden Advisory Board members (Dawn, Helen, Jen, and Mary) were dismayed that no plotholders joined us for the potluck last week where we and our families enjoyed a lovely evening (and great food) in the garden. We're further dismayed that turnout for the work parties has been dismal in July. We can't do it all ourselves and have busy schedulesand family commitments just as all of you have. So we're asking everyone to pull together and help in the garden by fulfilling the time commitments you agreed upon at the beginning of the summer. And please remember to enter in the logbook what you did and time spent. We use the log entries to determine plotholders and rates for next year. Thank you!
