Newsletter: Special Edition

This month we have 5 Wednesdays, so we've designated July 29th a No-work Party day!

Mark your calendars now, if you haven't already, and plan to join us at the EcoGarden next Wednesday at 6:00 pm for a potluck supper and celebration of the completion of our new fence and the growing bounty in our gardens. Friends and family are welcome. Please bring a main dish, salad or dessert to share, as well as your own plate and cutlery. We'll have iced tea made with garden herbs; BYO if you'd like to drink anything else.

Some gardening tips:

Want to wash the garden soil from your veggies before taking them home? A good rinse in cold water just after picking will keep your lettuce crisp longer in the frig. Use our handy sink at the main tap. The drains open and close by turning the thumb screws underneath. Use the right-most hose for easy filling. Please leave sinks clean, with lid in place, before leaving.

The Mow 'n Snow team will be helping us with weed-whacking on the garden perimeter, but each plotholder is reminded to keep the grass trimmed around their own bed.

If you are removing netting from your bed, please either take it home or roll up & tie and place in shed for gardeners' use next year. Please don't leave netting by your bed where others, especially children, can be tripped up by it.

Coming events:
* Next Work Party: Wednesday, August 5th, 4-8pm. Please try to join us at that time to help with tasks more easily done by 2 or more people. If you must come at other times to fulfill your time commitment, check the whiteboard in the shed for tasks to do. Please be sure to enter your time worked and what you did in the log book.

* Next workshop: Organic Gardening 3: Friday & Saturday, August 21 & 22.

* Garden2Market: visit the EcoGarden's table at the Mountain Market in Rotary Park, Sundays from 10am to 2pm. Bring your surplus harvest to sell at our market table! More info on our website, www.ecogarden.ca, or phone Mary at 250-423-3482.
