Garden Contruction 2008

Steve digging - the posts were two feet into the ground and two feet above
Steve cutting the wood for the demo bed logs laid into the 2 foot trench lining them up and backfilling perhaps Chris could fill in for the missing peices? Tanya and Hue putting the finishing touches to the new bed workers at the ready to fill the bed with compost, soil and coir Many hands make light work oh thank goodness for machinery - to think we filled the other half by hand! scott helping thanks to Extra Foods in Fernie for donating all the plants to fill the new bed! Filling it in - amazing what annuals can do - it's an insta-garden

The EcoGarden received a grant from the federal government's New Horizons funding program to built some new beds. We also received money from the Farm 2 School program to build a greenhouse. A whole lot of construction for one year. This journal will track the changes.

We had a two day work session that completed a huge amount of the work in a short amount of time with the help of many volunteers. Catered meals by Fernie Fine Foods helped us keep our energy up. It was intense.

The work sessions were incredibly effective and well organized thanks to the 5+ months of planning thanks to the EcoGarden Advisory Committee. The work continues on....

These photos show the construction of the demonstration bed. The first half of this circular garden has been built over the past three years, by hand. Finally the second half joined it in an afternoon (the magic of machinery). This 30 foot circular garden has a herb spiral in the center, with native edible and medicinal plants in the 1st half of this garden.

Watch for more.. as the fence is completed and more....
